Expedia apparently bailed out Trover, a photography app that created an attractive user experience but ran into a stone wall in the form of Instagram and Facebook, as well as user interest.

TripIt's premise is that business travelers will want to look at some pics and get some tips from Trover about restaurants and attractions during business trips. And, besides, when the business trip ends, a leisure trip often begins.

Trover is a great little photo-sharing community, but it faces the same challenge that just about all startups face -- getting noticed, and in this case, as it labors in Instagram's shadows.
