Travel Tripper is taking on a distressed asset, Pegasus. Meh. But what's interesting is that Accel-KKR is backing the deal. The support by the private equity firm is yet another sign of more rollups of hotel tech companies to come against a backdrop of hotel software investments by Amadeus, Sabre, and Shiji.

DHISCO boss Toni Portmann said the hotel distribution tech company has completely modernized its formerly limited and failure-prone system. But we're still waiting to see a wave of new contract announcements, including for alternative lodging providers.

Toni Portmann inherits the distribution side of the Pegasus business, which formerly provided both hotel reservations services and distribution. In so doing, she will lead the healthier segment as the hotel reservations' portion has drastically given up market share over the last few years.

Pegasus Solutions was once a leading provider of central reservations system services to the global hotel industry, but the business has fallen off the cliff. Letting the chief information officer and other top leaders depart doesn't signal that Pegasus' prospects will be changing anytime soon.

In this transaction, Pegasus Solutions unloads a struggling reservations business to a private equity firm, and a smaller Pegasus Solutions, still facing lots of issues, lives to fight another day.

Travelocity was once the darling in Sabre's portfolio, and now the fastest-rising star is its hospitality solutions business. It has plenty of room to grow, particularly in EMEA and APAC, where chains do not dominate and there is so much need for advanced technology solutions.
