But as the Tokyo governor warned his colleagues, this is only halfway point in the process. Madrid desperately needs the boost in tourism and the event would nicely top off Turkey’s rising global presence meaning it’s too soon to start placing bets.

The bid seems perfect, but unfortunately for Japan the IOC doesn't operate based upon logic and common sense. Just ask the cities that lost to Sochi.
For now Davos and St Moritz would have to be content with being the playground of rich and famous, not famous and sporty.

Does Switzerland really want to follow Russia on anything? That, and the cost of the project and visitor influx weighed against the very nice status quo, is the question residents are asking. And it's quite easy to say "no."

It's hard to se why motel owners wouldn't go for the deal. They'll get discounts to upgrade, then can go back to business as usual (if they want) after the World Cup and the Olympics.
