Vrbo was leaving money on the proverbial table by sticking with whole homes. That seems to be changing, but it remains to be seen how far Vrbo will meander into hotels and other inventory types.

Private equity firm HIG Capital has taken a majority stake in Enseo, a provider of digital in-room entertainment tech for hotels. Enseo plans to grow through acquisition. The deal is a validation of founder and CEO Vanessa Ogle's bold pivot of the tech vendor.

Chalk up La Quinta's poor performance in the second quarter to nothing more than a blip. The brand has always performed in line with direct competitors. But Wyndham wants to take it to another level.

It looks like Wyndham's in the market for another midscale brand, but it probably won't happen this year.

Does this mean that Wyndham's experiment in creating a simple, straightforward loyalty program for the everyday traveler failed? Maybe, but not necessarily. It just means that there are some laws in travel loyalty programs that are there for a reason.
