A strategic leak to WSJ on this one: American is likely approaching potential partners reluctantly because, as Andrew Ross Sorkin made clear, its execs stand to make a ton of money if they wait to merge.

Since filing Chapter 11, American has been posting its monthly revenue numbers to show off the success of its new strategy and convince banks and backer that it may be able to pull this off on its own.

This revelation will create huge ripples for a week among all kinds of vested interests in and around the aviation industry, and then nothing will happen. At least nothing that will be benefit any of the employees of both airlines, or even less so, the passengers.
