Airbnb CEO Tells Morning News Show About News from Five Years Ago

Skift Take

This is a nice reminder that what is obvious to people in the industry can still seem brand new to outsiders. Even ones who you'd assume would know better.

Just when you thought that the New York Times' Thomas Friedman was the last man on earth to hear about the sharing economy, this morning MSNBC "Morning Joe" host Joe Scarborough welcomed Airbnb CEO Brian Chesky to hear about the five-year-old service for the first time.

Chesky explained the apartment and house-rental service to host Joe Scarborough as his roundtable of regulars interjected questions about air mattresses, room shares, and castle rentals.

Tune into the 2:50 mark for Airbnb CEO Brian Chesky's promise that the service's "currency of trust" will protect Joe Scarborough from vampire attacks in Transylvania.

An informal vote at the end of the segment had two people saying they wouldn't use the service and two in favor of it, as long as they didn't have to share. "I don't want to talk to anyone. I want my own house," said co-host Mika Brzezinski.

The host was quite excited about the idea. "I'm gonna be Tweeting pictures of myself in, like, Belgium on one of these air mattresses" exclaimed Scarborough.

Stay tuned for the next episode of "Morning Joe," when the team may very well hear about the iPhone for the very first time.
