Google Flight Search update lets you search for regions, not just airports

Skift Take

A number of startups are trying to make flight comparison easier with pinning and saving, but Google Flight Search's update is a good model for a seamless regional search.

Google updated Flight Search today to allow travelers to search flights by region, rather than just airport. Searches can be for regions as small as a state or as large as South America with capital cities appearing first and smaller airports appearing upon zoom.

Users can specify searches by number of stops, airlines or alliances, cost, flight duration, and departure times. Itineraries can be selected on Google Flight Search, but transactions go down on the airline’s website.

This tool is great for travelers that are looking for a weekend getaway to the Caribbean, but don’t necessarily care which island they visit. Or for travelers that are setting out on a longer trip and aren’t particular to which city they begin their journey in.
