Air France vows ground staff strike won't ground planes

Skift Take

Air France's pledge that the strike will only cause minor disruptions may be overly optimistic.

With Air France's ground staff calling for a strike against givebacks October 26, the airline says it "expects to carry all its passengers to their final destination" that day.

"Disruptions should remain limited to a few flight delays," the airline predicts.

Of course, that remains to be seen.

You can expect a reduced flight schedule for Air France on the day of the strike as the carrier says it will provide an updated flight schedule two days earlier on October 24.

Meanwhile, Air France urges passengers to "provide reliable contact details," including mobile phone numbers and email addresses, during their trips because the airline will be sending text messages and emails in the event of flight disruptions.

The CGT union, which represents Air France's ground staff, has called for the strike to commence at the start of school vacation. The union is upset about the airline's $2.6 billion cost-cutting plan.

The ground staff reportedly are the only Air France union members taking part in the strike, although it remains to be seen whether other airline workers will support it.
