Sam's Club Launches Travel App for Members

Skift Take

Standalone travel apps are becoming the norm. Groupon has one, and now Sam's Club. A lot of retailers want to cash in on travel.

Sam's Club, a unit of Wal-Mart Stores, launched a standalone travel app that's powered by wholesaler Tourico Holidays.

The iOS and Android app, which offers 40,000 hotels as well as vacation homes, flights, car rentals and activities, is available to Sam's Club members only. The basic Sam's Savings membership costs $45 per year and with a $100 per year Sam's Plus membership, app users are promised an additional 5 percent savings on travel deals.

Sam's Club claims to be "the first mass market retailer to offer members a mobile app exclusively dedicated to leisure and business travel needs."

A call center supports changes and cancellations, the company states.

The debut of the app follows the creation of Sam's Club Travel in partnership with Tourico Holidays last summer.
