The changes come as Ed Bastian enters his second decade as CEO of the airline — he could be working to ensure the company’s business model thrives beyond the current generation of executives.

Delta Air Lines announced Thursday a major shake-up of its C-suite as many executives are set to retire this year. 

The carrier’s chief external affairs officer Peter Carter is set to become president of the company. His predecessor, Glen Hauenstein, retired in February. Dan Janki, Delta’s chief financial officer, will now be the company’s chief operating officer. Erik Snell, Delta’s chief customer officer, will take the place of CFO.
