Skift is growing fast and as the largest industry intelligence platform providing media, insights, and marketing to key sectors of the travel industry we are expanding into research.

We are seeking a Trends Research Editor for Skift in our New York City headquarters, leading our editorial and research needs for the subscription Skift Trends Reports service, which publishes two Trends Reports a month.

The Editor will be responsible for all editorial and product for Skift Trends Reports, and also lead our potential expansion into industry and consumer research through partnerships with third-party research firms and data vendors.

Overall goal for the Editor we’re aiming for: To help evolve our Skift Trends Reports and data credibility of current deliverables so Skift products become must-have heavyweight research products.

Trends Reports are expected to take complex, disparate ideas and distill them into simple, provocative concepts, while taking a stand on companies, industries and outcomes.

Responsibilities:

  • Work directly with CEO and Head of Content on building out the research practice.
  • Identify travel industry and consumer trends worth going deeper into with our reports.
  • Cultivating sources and executives in travel and help in sizing markets and analyzing research results, to help build data-intensive trends reports.
  • Build out the schedule of reports for the year, and continually look to improve the timeliness of the reports.
  • Build and maintain a network of freelance writers/analysts.
  • Help the writers/analysts with the structure, focus and sources for the report, edit the reports and deliver the reports on time for launch.
  • Develop and nurture new partnerships with third-party research firms and data vendors to build the data underpinning of these reports.
  • Build a data bank based on proposed Trends Report segments to pull data for future trend reports.
  • Lead custom research for our clients through our SkiftX branded content unit.
  • Work with product sales to measure, analyze and grow the subscriber community.
  • Create editorial teasers to help promote the Trends Reports.
  • Attend conferences, speaking engagements, and other media as our research lead.

Requirements:

  • 7-10 years experience as a senior-level writer, editor or analyst.
  • Previous experience in travel industry, preferably around digital topics.
  • Passionate about big-picture trends around travel and understanding of larger tech trends affecting it.
  • Track record of researching, writing and editing long-form pieces, preferably research-type reports.
  • Direct hands-on experience producing research at some point during career.
  • Familiarity and potential experience with the online research tools.
  • A strong record of academic achievement: B.A. or B.S. minimum; MBA or M.S. preferred.
  • Big plus: Background in statistics and the ability to tell stories out of data.
  • Ability to work with a team under tight deadlines and handle multiple tasks.
  • Ability to work independently without day-to-day supervision and as part of a global team.
