Skift Take

This is bound to give Burma a big boost in tourism, at least in intent, though the tourism board has been silent on this opportunity for PR. If this was Tourism Australia we would have seen 15 press releases even before the show aired, then 10 more after to show the intent increase and dollar value attached to it.

Anthony Bourdain’s new CNN show “Parts Unknowndebuted last night amidst a lot of hype, and it didn’t disappoint. Picking Myanmar as the subject of the pilot show was a smart choice. It is the hottest new destination on the travel circuit for the last year, and Bourdain stuck to Yangon and Bagan, part of the usual tourist circuit in the newly opened country. Food of course was a big part of it.

I went to Burma early last year, though on a more extended trip than Bourdain’s, and pre-traced his Yangon and Bagan steps, so to speak. Some pics above from my trip, as a photo essay.
