Earlier in January we did a story about startups that were marketing themselves as the "Airbnb of..." in their profiles on AngelList, all 75 of them, and it proved to be a popular one. Airbnb being one of the hottest startups and the "collaborative consumption" sector being an investor favorite these days, it is understandable why.
Now we've decided to look at a relatively old school company, Tripadvisor, and check how many startups are marketing themselves as "Tripadvisor of..." in their AngelList profiles. Tripadvisor is a platform -- of reviews -- and marketplaces+platforms as a concept is heavenly manna if you're looking for investment from the herd VCs.
