Skift Take

Turkish Airlines’ ad eclipsed not just travel video ads, but almost all other video ads created in 2012. Expect TA to come out with more winners featuring Bryant, Messi, and other sports stars in 2013.

Turkish Airlines's wildly popular video ad featuring LA Lakers basketball player Kobe Bryant and Argentine soccer star Lionel Messi has crossed the 100 million mark on YouTube.

As of Tuesday morning, the ad had been viewed 101,566,283 times.

The video ad was viewed more than any other travel ad created in 2012, including Air New Zealand's Hobbit-themed safety briefing with just over 10 million views. It is the 6th most-watched travel ad ever online, according to Visible Measures.

The Turkish Airlines’ ad is also the 4th most-viral ad of all ads launched in 2012 coming in behind Kony, Red Bull’s Stratos, and Angry Birds Space.

The video was deemed a viral success from the start after racking up more than 4 million views just one day after it was posted to YouTube on December 6.
