Instagram's most popular places to post photos of across the world in 2012

Skift Take

It’s not quite an equal comparison, but there’s been little correlation between the most-Instagrammed locations versus where tourists check into on Facebook or what destinations they’re searching on Google.

Instagram released a list of the most photographed locations in 2012 today and a surprising place tops the list.

Over 100,000 photos were taken of Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport this year, followed by the Siam Paragon shopping mall in Bangkok.

Paris is the only other international destination on the list with the Eiffel Tower taking the seventh spot on the list.

Times Square is fourth on the list, but was the number one on Facebook's list of most checked-in places in the U.S. this year. The remaining six of the locations are in California, although they're closer to L.A. than Silicon Valley.
