Viceroy, a collection of hotels and resorts, has rebranded. It now promises to curate luxury experiences that will be consistently top-tier and locally immersive, from Portuguese beekeeping to glassblowing in Los Cabos.

In Skift's top stories this week, hotel real estate investor Highgate inks a deal to buy Viceroy Hotels, United Airlines orders more than $29 billion of Boeing jets and JetBlue Airways finally updates its loyalty program.

Viceroy may be able to accelerate its growth and brand awareness given Highgate's scale and track record. Of course, that is if Highgate can execute well after the deal closes.

When it comes to designing logos, luxury brands are generally risk-averse. That's even the case in the hospitality industry, where brands are always trying to promote their singularity. The names may change, but the colors stay the same.

Personally — while Virgin Atlantic may disagree with us — wearing a smartwatch is preferable to donning a Google Glass, and we have a feeling hotel staff members would agree, too.

We spoke to hoteliers from Viceroy, The Ritz-Carlton, Park Hyatt, Brandmark Collective, and Pendry Hotels to gain a better perspective into where the luxury hospitality market is headed.
