Amtrak will begin serving Burlington, Vt., later in July, nearly 70 years after passenger rail service ended to the city.

The hope is that small-scale partnerships like Burlington and Montreal’s charging stations are only the beginning to larger projects that make eco-friendly transport as easy and inexpensive as today’s main transit options.

Vermont’s ski industry benefitted from a return in leisure travel and its position to serve a large number of short-haul markets in the northeast U.S.

Making it easier to travel U.S. is tied to the visa regime and border security, which in turn is heavily influenced by immigration reforms. Also U.S. travel orgs need more manpower to help grow them, and in turn grow jobs all around. All of this should be on the table in immigration reform debates.

Vermont isn't the first destination to copy Sweden -- that honor goes to New Zealand -- and as long as there are tourism marketing managers short on ideas, it certainly won't be the last.
