Argentina started counting the profits to be made from increased tourism before Pope Francis was even elected, but their expectations are now confirmed with a concrete interest in the country’s inaugural papal tour.

The whole of Argentina could use the tourism boost, but Buenos Aires will see the biggest surge with religious travelers walking the steps of Pope Francisco’s childhood.

At least in the short-term, heightened interest in travel to Rome could be huge, and that could be propelled by the excitement in Argentina about their fellow countryman being tapped for the papacy.

We don't have faith that Pope Francis will be scouting out his own hotel stays and paying at checkout much in the future, but it was a great touch on Day 1.
