A consumer watchdog report found that complaints against airlines have continued to increase in 2023, despite improvements made on cancellations and delays.
Denver-based Frontier Airlines suffered a $32 million net loss in the normally strong third quarter. Its operating margin was negative 6%, a sharp reversal from the positive 5% it earned in the same quarter a year earlier and the 16% it earned in 2019.
Slower bookings and "heightened" discounting are hurting Frontier Airlines and Spirit Airlines this quarter. That means potentially deep losses for the ultra low-cost carriers.
