India’s outbound travelers are growing in both number and net worth, and the Middle East is already their playground. To win the next decade, destinations must double down on weddings, luxury, and live events.
At Skift Global Forum East on October 30, 2025 in Abu Dhabi, UAE, Skift Research Analyst Saniya Zanpure delivered a data-backed case for why India represents the most important outbound travel market of the next decade — and why the Middle East is uniquely positioned to win it.
Nearly half of all Indian outbound travelers already head to the Middle East, thanks to what Zanpure calls the “frictionless advantage”: proximity, policy, connectivity, and cultural familiarity.
But as India’s middle and upper classes grow rapidly, the real opportunity lies in capturing higher-value segments.
Zanpure identified three key niches: luxury travel, destination weddings, and live tourism, such as major sporting events. Her core recommendation? Retain mass-market Indian travelers as they mature — and aggressively court the experience-driven, high-spending segments now emerging.
