HomeToGo just spent over $200 million to buy Interhome, a Swiss vacation rental operator. The move may cement the brand's shift from being a consumer-facing "Kayak for vacation rentals" to more of a B2B platform.
HomeToGo completed its acquisition of Swiss vacation rental operator Interhome on Friday, paying more than $200 million for a company that the German firm said will triple its profitability and help it pivot toward becoming more of a business-to-business software provider.
The deal underscores HomeToGo's strategy of focusing exclusively on vacation rentals rather than expanding into adjacent travel services, CEO Patrick Andrae said in an interview.
“Unlike others, we are not trying to go into other verticals, like experiences and so on,” he says. "Instead of broadening what we do in the marketplace, we are really doubling down on vacation rentals."
His mention of other verticals and experiences is a seeming reference to Airbnb.
The acquisition also highlights the Berlin-based company’s determination to rebuild its ma
