Does AI Know Your Hotel Exists?
ANIL AGGARWAL, CEO, Milestone Inc.
Moderated by Alison McCarthy
THE ARGUMENT
Most hotels are losing visibility in artificial intelligence search results, not because their content is thin, but because their technical infrastructure blocks AI crawlers before content is ever evaluated. Aggarwal argued that content quality matters, but only after the technical stack is in order. Site speed, crawlability, and schema markup are the actual gatekeeping layer. The same logic applies to the buy-versus-build decision. Aggarwal said even large chains with hundreds of engineers still bring in specialist tools for AI content work. Getting every property, every brand voice, and every template right at scale with zero tolerance for error is not a problem most hotel companies are built to solve in-house.
THE EVIDENCE
- Aggarwal shared an automation case study of a hotel chain with several thousand properties that now optimizes each site in 35 minutes, down from 10 hours, after automating content extraction, templating, and publishing across more than 2,000 deployed hotels.
- The same chain recorded a 7–10% lift in organic search on optimized properties.
- A hotel visibility audit shown during the session revealed airport hotel stays at 20% AI visibility. Aggarwal called that “a big flag” and said properties in that category should target 80–90% coverage.
- Aggarwal cited Google’s Marketing Live guidelines from the previous week, which advised brands to write content for customers rather than bots and to produce original material that AI engines cannot find elsewhere
- “It’s a one-way train. It’s not reversing, it’s not slowing down.” — Aggarwal, on AI search adoption
THE SO WHAT
If your brand.com properties have not been audited for crawlability, site speed, and schema markup, your content investment is not reaching AI engines, and the visibility gap compounds as adoption accelerates. The hotels capturing AI shelf space have automated the technical flywheel so every property outputs consistent, structured, AI-readable pages without human intervention each time.
