U.S. Airports to Hold Moment of Silence for Slain TSA Agent
Airports across the country will hold a moment of silence to honor the TSA officer killed by a rampaging gunman at Los Angeles International Airport.
The Transportation Security Administration says security checkpoint operations will stop at hundreds of U.S. airports at 9:20 a.m. PST (12:20 p.m. EST) Friday — the moment that Gerardo Hernandez was shot last week.
The 39-year-old father of two was the first TSA officer killed in the line of duty. A public memorial service for Hernandez will be held Tuesday morning at the Los Angeles Memorial Sports Arena.
Authorities say the alleged gunman, Paul Ciancia, targeted TSA officers. Two other TSA officers and a bystander were wounded before police shot Ciancia, who remains hospitalized.
