Ctrip Name Change to Trip.com Group Is Now Official

  • Skift Take
The name change to Trip.com Group is not a bad idea for Ctrip as it increasingly comes out of its shell and becomes a global force in online travel. A catchy domain name, though, doesn’t guarantee anything.

As expected, Ctrip shareholders decided to change the company name to Trip.com Group Ltd., adopting the moniker of the U.S. startup that Ctrip acquired in 2017.

The vote came at the company’s annual shareholder meeting in Shanghai on Friday.

Trip.com Group’s shares will start trading on the Nasdaq stock exchange on November 5 under the stock symbol TCOM.

Ctrip’s announcement about the name change, which also mirrors the name of its English-language website, did not detail the tally of the shareholder votes but merely said the special resolution was adopted.

The Trip.com domain has a long — more than two-decade — history replete with business successes and failures.

The new Trip.com Group hopes the name will be a tool in making international inroads.
