The 6 Travel Leaders on Fortune’s 40 Under 40

  • Skift Take
Lists like this are always about buzz rather than reality, so watchers will have to wait until these six reach their forties to see if they can turn their young-ish companies into established players.

Fortune magazine’s annual “40 Under 40” list for 2013 includes a handful of leaders in the travel space, from the guys at Airbnb to TAM airline’s only C-level executive. The six people represent only four different companies: Airbnb, Uber, Yelp, and TAM.

Considering the economic power of the travel sphere — what with it being the world’s largest industry — the rankings betray either a lack of youth in the ranks or a tendency by big media companies to fail to be interested in the sector. None of the world’s 15 largest travel companies by market cap are represented on this list, which means no young up and comers from Priceline, Disney, Carnival, or the gaming giants Las Vegas Sands or Wynn.

Below are the six leaders on Fortune‘s list, followed by links to the most popular related  coverage on Skift.
