Taxi apps to be allowed on one-year trial basis in NYC if it passes the vote tomorrow

    It is inevitable that these mobile cab hailing and scheduling apps will become the norm, but the process to reach there has to be followed, instead of the bluster approach that a brash and heavily funded startup like Uber loves.

    New York City’s Taxi and Limousine Commission will vote Thursday on a plan to permit customers to hail yellow cabs with smartphones during a one-year trial period, a limit added amid pressure from livery-fleet owners who feared the change would hurt their businesses.

    Use of online reservation services and phone-based hailing apps, including Uber, Hailo, GetTaxi and others, has risen sharply in other cities with less robust and less tightly regulated taxi industries than New York City’s.
