British Airways parent eyes American Airlines stake to ensure Oneworld’s future

    IAG is trying to protect its transatlantic interests, especially if someone like Delta comes in with a bid and pries away AA from Oneworld into Skyteam.

    International Airlines Group, parent company of British Airways, is considering the case for buying a minority stake in American Airlines to expand their commercial partnership and ensure the US carrier remains part of Oneworld, the global airline alliance. CEO Willie Walsh also voiced strong support for a merger between American, the third-largest US carrier by revenue, and US Airways, the fifth largest.
