Boingo Wireless Signs Wi-Fi Contract for New World Trade Center

  • Skift Take
Boingo Wireless has yet to detail the value of its new contract to power Wi-Fi services at the new World Trade Center complex, but the 20-year deal has to be a big and tall win.

Boingo Wireless, through its subsidiary New York Telecom Partners, signed a contract with the Port Authority of New York & New Jersey to design and manage Wi-Fi networks within the new World Trade Center complex in lower Manhattan.

Under the agreement, which could run for a maximum of 20 years, New York Telecom Partners would make payments to the Port Authority and share revenue from Wi-Fi service receipts.

One World Trade Center, the anchor of the complex and the tallest building in Manhattan, will have an observation deck and will be a tourist draw, as is the nearby 9/11 Memorial.

As tourists, office workers and other locals wander around the World Trade Center complex they will hopefully find the Wi-Fi to be at least as fast as McDonald’s.

In other news, Boingo Wireless, which provides Wi-Fi and distributed antenna service to more than 1 billion people annually at airports, stadiums and other public places, extended a Wi-Fi partnership with Nashville International Airport, and entered into a Wi-Fi partnership with Philips Arena, where the NBA’s Atlantic Hawks play, during the second quarter.
