Kayak Revamps Vacation Packages With Recommendations for the Best Combinations

  • Skift Take
Kayak prides itself on doing things differently, and its book-on-Kayak vacation package recommendations may provide some additional savings. However, many travelers will be turned off by having to book them in two separate transactions.

Kayak revamped its vacation package offering on its U.S. site, Kayak.com, after previously doing so on its sites in Germany, the UK, France, Spain, Italy, Switzerland and Australia, where travelers are used to booking packages for their travel.

In addition to offering packages from seven sites, including Priceline, Travelocity, Expedia, Orbitz, JetBlue, US Airways Vacations, and Funjet, with consumers having to navigate to those sites to book flight and hotel packages, Kayak also enables users to book flights and hotels in two bookings on Kayak.com.

Kayak calls these latter packages K-Packs, and suggests these pairings based on best value and popularity. Since travelers have to book the air and hotel components separately, though, they take the chance that one or both portions may no longer be available.

For now, the packages are just available on the desktop, with plans to introduce them later to mobile apps.
