It’s hard to see how LiveTrekker would gain a wide audience when sharing photos and videos is already accomplished without this app.

Trekea debuted its LiveTrekker iPhone app and marked the launch with an announcement that the Paris-based software company has picked up nearly $1.7 million in Series A financing from Geofinance S.A.

Geofinance, with offices in France, India, and Vietnam, invests in oil and gas, and new technologies.

LiveTrekker, startup Trekea’s first product, enables travelers and others to plot their location on a map using the iPhone’s GPS features, and then share their exploits through photos and videos.

Trekea, founded earlier this year, describes the free app as “life-logging,” conjuring images of live blogging your trip.

Treks of various kinds can be emailed to friends and colleagues or shared on social  networks.

“Our vision is to help the traveler seamlessly record as much as possible the key details that make up the journey and as less intrusively to him/her as possible,” says Jean-Marc DeBaud, Trekea’s co-founder and president. “We render the journeys then in such a manner as to immerse the viewer deeply in the context of the journey, hence procuring a unique viewing experience that is qualitatively different from what is currently available.”

Trekea disclosed its funding and touted its iPhone app at the LeWeb conference in Paris several days ago. The company says it plans to introduce an Android app soon.
