Taiwanese no longer need a visa to travel to the U.S. starting November 1

Taiwanese will be allowed to visit the U.S. without having to apply for a visa, after Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano announced Taiwan’s inclusion in the U.S. visa-waiver program from Nov. 1.

Under the program, preapproved, low-risk travelers from participating countries can travel to the U.S. for tourism or business for up to 90 days without a visa. Taiwan becomes the 37th member of the club and the fifth Asian participant after Brunei, Japan, Singapore and South Korea.

The ministry said Taiwanese will likely make 60,000 trips to the U.S. under the new arrangement.
