Strength in numbers: Thai tour agencies form alliances to reduce risks and costs

    A competitive tourism market has been saturated by cheaply built companies who have learned to cut operating costs with joint online marketing and by promoting partners’ packages, but have often left the consumer out of the equation.

    Intense competition in the travel industry has forced local tour operators to seek business partners to reduce operating costs and risks.

    Setting up a tour company in Thailand is not difficult, requiring as little capital as 200,000 baht.

    This has attracted a large number of players and resulted in a price war, local tour operators said.
