TripAdvisor’s Dining Reservations Investment and More in Travel Startup Funding This Week

  • Skift Take
TripAdvisor’s investing activity was down more than $30 million for the first half of 2016 and its investment in Southeast Asia’s Eatigo doesn’t mean it’s turning up the heat on funding for startups. However, it does signal TripAdvisor’s ongoing interest in getting deeper into dining reservations around the world.

fundingroundupEach week Skift creates a roundup of travel startups that have received or announced funding that week.

It’s been a hot week for travel startup funding as we kick off the fourth quarter of 2016 and the total amount raised this week among companies we tracked was about $112.1 million, which includes GoEuro’s $70 million Series C round from earlier this week.

Below are six companies that announced they raised funding this week. You can see previous roundups here.

    >>Eatigo, a discount restaurant reservations site in Thailand and Singapore, raised a $15.5 million Series B round from TripAdvisor, a new investor in the company. TripAdvior’s exact investment is unknown as other undisclosed investors participated in the round. The company works with restaurants that promote time-sensitive deals and it plans to expand to other cities in Southeast Asia. The company hasn’t disclosed its total funding to date.

    >>Social Tables raised a $13 million Series B from new investor QuestMark Partners and existing investors Bessemer Venture Partners, Fortify Ventures, Middleland Capital and Thayer Ventures. This is the Washington, D.C.-based startup’s fourth round of funding with its total funding now at $22.5 million. The company is a software-as-a-service provider for hoteliers and meeting planners to help them plan their events.

    >>Mystify, a B2B marketplace for global airfares, raised a $5 million Series A round from new investor RSI I Fund. This is the Bangalore, India-based company’s first funding round and the company was founded in 2009. The company gives travel agents, travel management companies and tour operators access to airfares on more than 900 airlines.

Roomex’s software helps hotels sell rooms on Roomex.com and other third party websites through an application programming interface. The Roomex portal gives travel managers access to corporate rates at more than 550,000 hotels worldwide.

    >>Fareness raised a $750,000 seed round from an undisclosed investor bringing the San Francisco-based company’s total funding to $1 million. The site lets travelers simultaneously search for lowest priced round-trip fares for more than 190 departure dates.
