Talk about deadline pressure. TripAdvisor updated its iOS and Android City Guides apps just in time for the June 12 start of the 2014 FIFA World Cup, adding 10 host cities to the Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro host cities that it already had.
The updated Android app was published in Google Play June 10, and the updated iOS app appeared in iTunes June 12.
All of these City Guides work online and offline for ease of use, and lack of data roaming charges. User reviews can be updated when back on Wi-Fi.
TripAdvisor City Guides apps now feature all of the dozen World Cup host cities, namely Salvador, Belo Horizonte, Fortaleza, Brasilia, Curitiba, Porto Alegre, Recife, Cuiabá, Natal, Manaus, Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro.
The Curitiba city guide, for example, includes sections on restaurants, hotels, attractions, nightlife, and shopping. Users can also take photos and turn them into postcards, and create a trip journal by checking-in to places as part of their trip.
When football fans finish viewing a match, they can open the city guide’s attraction section and view the “best nearby” attraction to keep things going.
Each city must be downloaded separately.
