Chicago-O’Hare will be first U.S. airport to get expedited passport screening

The service could help the notorious long lines at major points of entry like Chicago, Atlanta, New York, and Los Angeles, where the CBP staff is always half of what it should be.

The Chicago O’Hare International Airport will be the first airport in the United States to implement Automated Passport Control, a new technology designed to expedite customs clearance, the Chicago Department of Aviation announced recently.

More details from U.S. Customs and Border Protection:

The system was first implemented for U.S.-bound aircraft from Vancouver’s airport. “Automated Passport Control does not require pre-registration, is easy to use and maintains the highest levels of protection when it comes to the handling of personal data or information. As a result, travelers will experience shorter wait times, less congestion, and faster processing.”
