Norwegian will be rolling in the new ship Breakaway this spring, which has the potential to revitalize the market or spark increased ship calls for a stronger 2013.

Fewer cruise passengers went through New York City in 2012 than in 2011, according to a report by the New York Economic Development Corporation.

In a release, the NYEDC and Mayor Michael Bloomberg emphasized the industry’s reported $196.3 million economic impact on the city.

However, the 587,727 passengers who came through New York in 2012 was down from 632,939 in 2011, and passenger and crew total spending was down to $121.5 million from $149.8 million the previous year.
