As Hawaii’s popularity with travelers soars, so does its room rates

Hawaii’s hotel rates are riding a multi-year wave, making it harder for flip-flop loving tourists to find cheap lodging, especially in once-modestly priced Waikiki.

The average Hawaiian hotel room in January cost $231 per night, or 12% more than one year ago and 30% more than 2010, when the average rate was $177, according to an analysis of seven years of rate data from industry tracker STR.

The average room on Oahu Island reached nearly $210 a night last month – 15% more than a year ago and the USA’s second-most-expensive rate after Miami ($211), according to STR.
