SkiftAds of the Week: Dubai shopping festival, Greece, Turkish Airlines and Ritz Carlton

Although there’s no congruent theme running between this week’s roundup, we expect a dose of holiday cheer to be added to ads that debut over the next few weeks.

Dubai Shopping festival 2013: A very slick, visually stunning new ad promoting the upcoming extravaganza, one of the biggest shopping festivals around and a huge booster of Dubai tourism for the duration. Great background score and compelling voiceover, nevermind the overuse of “best” as the phrase for the festival.

Halkidiki, Greece released two tourism videos with very different purposes. One appeals to tourists interested in the island’s history and culture with images of residents building boats, old woman on their way to church, and Grecian statues in a modern-day park.

The second features more luxurious tourist amenities and activities including seafront hotels, spas, hiking trails, and beaches. The images speak for themselves with a repetitious melody replacing a voiceover.

Turkish Airlines: The airline leverages its position as the Euroleague’s title sponsor to advertise the basketball games with as many references to the airline as possible. How many times does the Turkish Airlines’ name flash? (We counted 9.)

Harrington, Australia: This straightforward tourism ad tells tourists what activities await them with an unimpressive series of video clips. Although the explanation is definitely thorough, no tourism ad should tout a supermarket as part of its offerings.

The Ritz-Carlton: This ad poses the florist’s passion for her work as an enthusiasm and quality that awaits all guests at the Barcelona hotel. “Let us… show you beauty in every detail, nurture your inner artist, inspire your every sense.”

Grand Hyatt Melbourne: This ad shows off the hotel as the perfect partner for the upcoming Melbourne Spring Fashion Week with a focus on the hotel’s sleek design and bar.
