Hotel industry boom in Burma’s capital in anticipation of Southeast Asian Games

  • Skift Take
Hotel growth was sparked by the upcoming sports competition in Burma, and foreign companies which had previously been looking to invest in the country’s nascent tourism industry are now taking action.

Burma will build 19 hotels in Naypyitaw, the capital, in anticipation of the upcoming 27th Southeast Asian Games set for the end of 2013, local media reported.

Currently the capital has 31 hotels, said the Myanmar Post Global News.

Burmese authorities have negotiated with hoteliers to meet customer demands in the service sector, the story said.
