Top 25 European Cities for Meetings in 2015

  • Skift Take
The value of this list will grow year-over-year as we start to see movement among the cities.

The Cvent Supplier Network today announced its top 25 destinations for meetings in Europe, based on sourcing activity through the online meetings management platform.

Cvent says it culled through data detailing meeting planner engagement levels with hotels and venues in more than 2,500 European cities to compile this first annual list. Activity was tracked from July 2014 to June 2015, and the ranking results were determined by:

    • Unique RFPs received
    • Total room nights requested in RFPs
    • Awarded RFPs
    • Awarded room nights
    • Percentage of qualified meeting venues
    • Number of profile views

Among the top 25 European destinations, the spectrum of meeting hotels in each city ranges from 1,511 in Paris to 79 in Copenhagen and 76 in Manchester.

The top ten cities are expected. Seven of them, not including Frankfurt, Rome, or Dublin, rank in the top ten of the 2014 ICCA standings.

Not surprising either, Germany is represented most among the top 25 list with four cities: Berlin, Frankfurt, Munich and Hannover.

Except where did Hannover come from? The capital of Lower Saxony doesn’t even rank among the top 124 European cities listed in the present ICCA standings.

According to Cvent, the city only has 56,000 square feet of convention center space, so it doesn’t host enough large conventions to merit showing in ICCA.

These rankings would be more interesting if the list was expanded to 50 cities, like the Top 50 U.S. Cities list. That way we could see year-over-year movement of some exciting European destinations emerging on the international meetings scene, like Belfast and Krakow.
