Southwest’s New Ad Campaign Acknowledges We Don’t Just Fly for Fun

  • Skift Take
College visits and wedding obligations aren’t the sexiest reasons to travel, which is what will make Southwest’s wry look at the experiences — and its fare offers — resonate with viewers.

Southwest Airlines is acknowledging the very practical reasons that we get on planes today with a series of new comical ads and fare sales.

The first spot shows a father and son visiting colleges, each one appearing better than previous one in the students’ eyes. The second spot follows a bridesmaid to a number of weddings, each marked with bad dresses and worse dance moves.

“Our personality shines through in these ads, but beyond the college visits and wedding dancing we can have fun with, you’re going to see an airline that works hard to keep fares low and flying accessible with a strong emphasis on the hospitality our Employees deliver day in and day out,” Southwest’s chief commercial officer Bob Jordan said in a statement.

The ads, which were created by ad agency GSD&M in Austin, Texas, will run nationally for four weeks.
