A majority of “adventure enthusiasts” went to college, a group defined as those with advanced skills for a favorite adventure activity such as hiking and who accept high risk, a new Adventure Travel Trade Association report finds.
The adventure enthusiasts category has the highest percentage of college educated people, with 70% hitting the books. Just over half of the other two categories’ members are college educated, with about 52% of beginner adventure travelers and only 54% of intermediate adventure travelers having one.
More men than women consider themselves adventure enthusiasts, and the enthusiast group is also the smallest percentage of adventure travelers, the largest is the beginner adventurers.
Adventure enthusiasts also spend the most time per day reading “traditional media,” 6.5 hours, while they spend the least amount of time reading “new media,” six hours.
