Although it may be difficult to get visitors to download an app for a one-time visit, those that prove useful in the planning and navigation phases are likely to improve visitors’ experience and perception of the destination.

BlueBridge, an app developer for convention and visitors bureaus, this week announced a $1 million seed round led by angel investors Bill Godfrey, founder of marketing and app company Aprimo, and Tim Kopp, former CMO of marketing software ExactTarget.

The company uses the term mobile-apps-as-a-service (MAaaS) to describe its functions which include building, deploying and managing mobile iOS and Android apps.

It offers an annual subscription for app management software that provides analytics, app maintenance, training and support.

The company has created app for 17 tourism organizations including Visit Gainesville, Visit Roane County and Visit Vallejo California.

“Bluebridge’s world class mobile engagement tool makes it easy and affordable for any organization to have a high-quality, customized and up-to-date mobile app that can stand alongside apps from large companies and high-value brands,” investor Tim Kopp said in a statement.

The seed capital will be used to double the team to 50 employees and develop its subscription-based app platform.
