Southwest Airlines Poised to Join TSA PreCheck Program

Southwest Airlines should soon be joining Alaska Airlines, American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Hawaiian Airlines, United Airlines, US Airways, and Virgin America in the TSA PreCheck program for expedited passenger screening.

Tammy Romo, the Southwest CFO, said at the Raymond James Global Airline Transportation Conference in New York City today that Southwest would begin participating in TSA PreCheck “very soon.”

On other matters, Romo said Southwest has still not filed plans with the FAA to begin allowing passengers to use portable electronic devices from gate to gate, but will “file our plans just as quickly as possible.”

Southwest is the largest U.S.domestic carrier by passenger traffic, and all of its big competitors, including JetBlue, Delta, American, United and US Airways have begun permitting the expanded use of portable electronic devices below 10,000 feet.
