Virgin Hotels to open NYC hotel in NoMad area in 2016

  • Skift Take
The race for the gentrification of the immigrant-shops heavy NoMad area is on in earnest, and Virgin will add to the “safe edgy” hipness of the area. And this will continue until all immigrants are pushed out…

So the most awaited new hotel location in New York City is now public: Virgin Hotels, which is opening its first hotel in Chicago in 2014, has now announced the location of its first New York City hotel: the NoMad area. It will be right opposite/diagonal to Ace Hotel, on the northwest corner of 29th Street and Broadway.

The hotel will have over 300 guest rooms, and is set to open in 2016. This will join the Ace Hotel, its cousin Nomad Hotel, the upcoming Tommie Hotel, and others, to make it one of the hottest areas in New York City for hotel development, mostly of the boutique/hip kinds in keeping with the “safe edgy” reputation of the area.

And more Virgin Hotel to come next, the company says: Dallas, Los Angeles, Miami, San Francisco, Washington DC, and London are all locations it is scouting now. This means after a slow start in developing Chicago Hotel, the company is now in overdrive.
