Ecuador’s tiny enough, but carries big weight as the largest producer of bananas in the world: 24 million tonnes of them are exported every year. It is now turning to the lowly global staple fruit to promote its still-nascent tourism industry. Enter the Banana Ambassador.
It is now adding QR stickers emblazoned with Ecuador tourism logo, instead of the conventional stickers attached to each banana, and scanning the QR takes users to promotional video and tourism site, with the hope that enough people notice it and get curious about the provenance of the fruit and the country it comes from.
