Airbnb will eat travel and real estate industry’s lunch, says investor Marc Andreessen

No one accused Airbnb for not being hugely ambitious, and it has made moves including adding neighborhood guides and possibly tours and activities down the lines. But it may have better chances of conquering travel than real estate where local and state regulations will be the biggest headwind.

“AirBnB is gonna eat real estate,” said AirBnb investor and board member Marc Andreessen. Not just hotels, not just vacation rentals, not just sublets: Andreessen predicts that the online rental platform will do to real estate what eBay and other online sellers did for goods. And then it will eat the travel industry’s lunch too. (Caveat: He’s an investor).
