Spirit airlines keeps its fee-charging spirit: $100 fee for carry-on at gate

    People have a choice: to not fly Spirit Air. Those who willingly do AND do not wise up to its fee-charging ways, they deserve to pay that $100. Simple.

    Spirit really really likes you…to pay tons of fees. Now here’s a new one: Passengers who don’t pay the advance carry-on bag fee (starting at $20) will now have to pay $100 at the gate. That and tons of other fee increases, starting Nov 6.

    Its rationale for the $100 fee: “Unfortunately, some customers are still waiting until they reach the boarding gate to purchase their carry-on. This slows the boarding process for all customers, delays flights, increases costs for the company, and ultimately results in higher fares for everyone…The $100 carry-on bag fee is intentionally set high to deter costly delay-causing gate activity.” Got it.
