Delta rolls back upper class fare increase after competitors refuse to match

  • Skift Take
Not sure how, but this raising-and-waiting-for-competitor-to-match cycle needs to get broken, in the consumer interest. Anyone?

Delta began rolling back the increase in its upper class and premium economy fares after competitors declined to match it. On Monday night, Delta raised prices on many tickets sold within seven days of departure by $4 to $10 per round trip, aimed at first class, instant-upgrade and refundable economy-class fares.

Airlines have tried raising fares eight times this year but only succeeded four times, including the most recent increase in July, according to J.P. Morgan analyst Jamie Baker.
