You already know this if you’ve been flying regularly out of Newark airport, but you’d still get a small tinge of schadenfreude when real numbers tell you the same story. According to numbers from Bureau of Transportation Statistics, short-haul flights out of Newark have been the worst performing flights over this year, and May-June have been exceptionally bad, as the excel embedded below shows. And the culprit in a majority of the cases is ExpressJet, owned by SkyWest and operating as Delta Connection or United Express on short-haul flights.
No wonder Amtrak numbers on the north-eastern corridor are on the up and up: EWR and others are throwing off customers to them.
